As fate would have it, Halloween got postponed for the first time ever in my recollection. It let us all be together for Halloween (except Christine who had to get to her party earlier than everyone else). Still, we had a great time getting together and getting ready for the night of trick-or-treating.

BMS 6th Grade Band Exhibition
Jake and Beth got to perform for the first time as members of a band tonight. BMS had an exhibition concert of the 6th grade band. They were really great and it’s hard to believe that these kids have only been playing for a couple of months. I couldn’t believe how many songs they could do. It looked like everyone was having a good time, too. Way to go, Jake and Beth, I’m very proud of you two!

BMS Swim Meet
Today was the first BMS swim meet, and the first time Jake and Beth got to swim for BMS (but it was old hat for Lauren). It was pretty far away (Lebanon) but the weather was nice and the facilities had a nice big area for people when they weren’t swimming, so it was very comfortable. Here are some pictures:

Jake and Bridget
This was so cute I had to get a picture. Bridget loves it when Jake practices, and today he was doing some trumpet and she sat there playing along…

A Party for Me…
It was very sweet of Diane to make “low-carb” brownies for me. They were wonderful and much better than I thought low-carb brownies could be. They made for a very nice party. Here are a few pictures that were taken, and I think they pretty much speak for themselves as answers to the “how come you’re never in any of the pictures on the website…

Party at Grandma’s
It was so great to see many people at Grandma’s house tonight! The kids especially had fun with Nicholas and Matthew but missed Amanda. Here are some pictures I managed to get:

Beth’s Cross Country Team is Champion
I saw this sign at BMS tonight. Congratulations, Beth! I knew your team was the champion, but it’s so cool to see it in public.

He had a party at his house with a sleepover and everything, but we had to have a birthday celebration for Gregors here, too (and it’s not even his birthday yet…).
Saturday, October 5th, 2013
My cousin Kevin has taken a job at Vanderbilt and moved to Nashville this week. His mom and dad (Aunt Lois and Uncle George) were in town to help him get settled, and my came down for a visit, so we had a big party for everyone. Welcome to the great city of Nashville, cousin!

Final Cross Country Meet of the Year
I can’t believe that cross country is already over for Beth. Well, she certainly went out with a bang today. The final meet was the WMAA “Medal Run” and it had girls from all eight schools running (probably about 250-300 girls from what I saw). It started out hilariously, because someone’s dog got loose right after the race started and it began to chase the whole pack of girls. Fortunately someone stopped it before it caught any of the girls.
Beth was beyond amazing. She came in second place overall. All of the top three girls were from Brentwood Middle School. Great job Beth! It was so much fun to watch you run. Here are some pictures of the race and of the medal ceremony:
Here she is, just one in the crowd of hundreds at the start of the race:
Here I was so excited because she is one of only two girls to have emerged from the back part of the course:

WILCO: Marching Band Exhibition
Tonight Williamson County had its annual High School Marching Band Exhibition. Lauren got to go and participate in the final song, America: Sweet Land of Liberty, which was performed by the Williamson County Massed Band, which was basically all high school marching band members and all eighth grade band members. As far as I can tell, Lauren was one of only two kids (out of close to a thousand) who was playing the piccolo. Pretty cool, girl.

Beth’s Cross Country Meet
Beth had a cross country meet at Grassland Middle School today, and it was so hot outside. Those poor kids. She did awesome, though, and it looked like she was having a great time.

Christine’s Soccer Game
It was hot but beautiful outside. We watched Christine play soccer and we all had some fun in the sun (but it was even better when we got home and went swimming).

BMS Pep Band
Lauren and the BMS Pep Band played at the football game tonight. It was really great to hear them again, since I hadn’t had an opportunity since the tailgate last year. They sounded great. Too bad the announcer kept interrupting their music!

Beth’s First Cross Country Meet
Beth started cross country about a week and a half ago and she had her first meet today. She was amazing. There were about 150 sixth, seventh and eighth-grade girls running, and Beth got 19th!!! She didn’t even seem tired after the race. Way to go, girl!!!

Boys’ Lego Fort
I had forgotten how much fun legos are. The boys had a good time today making a World War II lego world, complete with burning debris, attacking Americans and a bunch of Germans held up in a fort.

I guess tonight has turned into a welcome back to school party. We made mint chocolate cupcakes and tried out a new fluffy thick frosting recipe that was a big hit.
